We Provide Safe, Confidential Help for Survivors
of Domestic Violence

Sojourn Shelter & Services is a nonprofit organization providing emergency shelter, crisis intervention, legal advocacy, counseling, and prevention education to individuals and families affected by domestic violence in Springfield and throughout Central Illinois.
We serve survivors in: ​Sangamon County, Christian County, Logan County, Menard County, Montgomery County. All services are free and confidential.
  • 24/7 Crisis Hotline: Immediate, confidential support and safety planning from trained advocates.​
  • Emergency Shelter: A safe, secure location for survivors and their children fleeing abuse.​
  • Court Advocacy: Support with Orders of Protection, court accompaniment, and navigating the legal system.​
  • Counseling & Support Groups: Trauma-informed counseling for adults and children impacted by domestic violence. Even if you are not in-shelter, these services are available.​
  • Teen Dating Violence Prevention: Education and outreach programs for middle schools, high schools, and colleges in Central Illinois.​
  • Community Education Training: Education and outreach programs for workplaces, healthcare providers, and community organizations.

🔷What is Domestic Violence?

Domestic violence is a pattern of behaviors used by one person to gain power and control over another in an intimate relationship.​ It can include:
  • Physical abuse
  • Emotional or psychological abuse
  • Sexual abuseFinancial control
  • Threats and intimidation
  • Digital abuse
Abuse is not always physical. Many survivors experience emotional manipulation, isolation, or control long before physical violence occurs.

Is your shelter confidential?
          Yes. Services are confidential to protect the safety of survivors and their children. Our
          shelter is known in our community.​
Do I have to press charges to receive help?
          No. You do not need to involve law enforcement to access our services.
Can men receive services?
          Yes. We provide services to all survivors of domestic violence.
What if I’m not ready to leave?
          You can still call our hotline for support and safety planning.
